| This is a very popular after school session with 10-15 young people attending. Young people that attended secondary school in September moved onto the Youth session and younger children have now joined this session. We continue to provide arts and crafts and involve all young people in decision making and always listen to their ideas for the club, giving them a sense of self-worth and feel part of a team and gain confidence. | |
This term we have concentrated on using loose parts e.g. tent material, logs and rocks so that the children can create their own environment. We have talked about wildlife, healthy eating and provided multi-cultural projects such as our mid autumn celebration of the Moon Festival, a popular harvest festival celebrated by Chinese and Vietnamese people. The young people made their own lanterns and prepared a vegetable soup which was a great success. Our aim was to bring the community together, however this is still proving difficult. Future plans include us working alongside the Blackfield Children’s centre staff to provide a parent and toddler session where we aim to engage families from the army alongside other members of the community – with the aim of integrating those different groups.
