The sessions have been developing well, successfully meeting the overall aims of the session which are: to improve the quality of life for families and to allow them to use the existing meeting place and services/school.
The bus provides a safe and stimulating environment for all people to access, including numerous fathers that sometimes participate, for example during a session where they initiated playing board games. | |
Staff have begun to form relationships with both parents and children, with an average of 15 young people attending the session every Wednesday. Children range from approximately 4 to 15 years old. On most sessions, parents access the bus for advice and support from staff. We provide a range of innovative activities such as arts and crafts, story telling, inside and outside games (such as a mobile climbing wall). We also provide all of the young people with the opportunity to participate in our Music Project where their music talents will be recorded and given to them on a CD to keep.
We now take the bus down to the bottom of the site, which is more easily accessible for all residents. This has also enabled us to meet our overall aim of improving opportunities for the residents. Most of the families look forward to and welcome the bus coming, recognising the service and support it provides.
Since the bus has been coming, the young people’s general behaviour has improved and they have begun to respect the bus and staff.
