Our work with Gypsies and Travellers has led to us being requested to undertake three major pieces of research into the health and social needs of this marginalised group. In 2006, we were requested by the Government Office South East to investigate the health and social needs of families living in Hampshire and a separate piece of research was commissioned by the PCT to cover the New Forest from 2005 -2007. In 2007/08 we began a further piece of research on behalf of the the Department of Racial Equality. This investigation examined the mental health service and how this impacts on the Gypsy Traveller community.
Through our research, we have identified that there are huge inequalities in health within the Gypsy community and we have responded to their needs by delivering health projects around the Hampshire area, with funding from the Department of Health.
The findings of this research and information about our other work is available from the Forest Bus office.
